Out with the old, in with the new. Another year out, a new one in. How does it go so fast? I recall my 98-year old grandma telling me “The past 50 years of my life just whizzed by.” No way, said I. But, no more. I get it. Time marches, no, races on. This year, I plan to mark the passage of time with smilestones, events that just make me happy.

smileyI abhor the concept of a “bucket list”, because I don’t view my life in terms of experiences to gather before I die. Rather, activities that eluded me because it just wasn’t the right time, I am adding to the top of my list, because they make me smile. That’s the only reason.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I have too many conversations with my friends that are more about our grown children and less about our own lives. Sure, it’s fine to commiserate and compare notes, but, somehow we seem to get stuck. Well, no more for me. I’m ready to talk about what makes me smile…chomping at the bit to go places that make me smile… visit friends and family who make me smile.

When I’m 98 years old and I realize that my life has whizzed by, I hope that my life is chock full of smilestones.

Happy New Year!
